DVD Review: ROCK OF AGES (BLU-RAY+DVD COMBO)

One of the most critically lambasted and dumped-on films of 2012 comes to Blu-Ray with an extended edition (not always a good thing) and after sitting through this choreographed lovefest to big-haired 1980s rock music I have come to one conclusion. Rock of Ages - I liked it. I may be in the minority, but damn it I liked it.

Say it loud, say it proud: recommended.

DVD Review: WOODENHEAD

Woodenhead is a dark, trippy alt-fairy tale shot in a very unorthodox manner, one that's comic, tragic, sexual and frightening. And then there's the music. The movie itself would be an easy recommendation for fans of the weird, but to make this a no-brainer this 2-disc set also includes a soundtrack CD.

Highly recommended, if you dare.

DVD Review: DR. HORRIBLE' S SING-ALONG BLOG

Just like with the classic Buffy The Vampire Slayer musical episode, I can't get these songs out of my head. It's funny, nerdy and even a little bittersweet, with a spot-on performance from Neil Patrick Harris as the titular bad guy trying to get the girl and change the world.

The content for this re-release carries the same content as the indie on-demand December 2008 version, with the only major difference being an ever so slight variation in the cover art and the fact that it is has been professionally authored and is not on a DVD+R.

Highly recommended.

DVD Review: AN AMERICAN IN PARIS (BLU-RAY)

It's hard to imagine a picture that features a ton of George Gershwin music, Gene Kelly dancing and striking Technicolor photography being messed up, but the grossly-overrated 1951 Oscar-winner for Best Picture certainly does what it can to be appalling, grating and tedious all at once. Dragged down by a moronic plot, lack of chemistry between the leads, excruciating casting, and shockingly poor integration of the music into the story, it's unfathomable how this movie retains its reputation.
