Article Cubs Help Yankees Open New Stadium

The Cubs scored first in the new Yankee Stadium, but didn't score last as the Bronx Bombers christened their new home with three home runs in rain-soaked exhibition baseball on Friday. Second-sacker Robinson Cano hit the first ever round-tripper in the new park. Hideki Matsui added a homer off the right field foul pole and then, amazingly, Cady Ransom hit a three-run shot off the left field foul pole.

Former Yankee and current Cubs manager Lou Pinella talked to the Chicago Sun-Times. ''I walked by [old Yankee Stadium] coming here and had some very pleasant memories,'' Piniella said, wearing his 1977 World Series ring with the diamond-encrusted NY. ''But as soon as I got into this one, I came to the realization really quick why the new one was built."

The Cubs search for their first World Series crown in over 100 years begins on Monday in Houston against the rival Astros. Carlos Zambrano takes the mound for the Northsiders.
