DVD Review THE LADY VANISHES (BLU-RAY)

This 1938 mixed bag mystery/thriller/comedy from Alfred Hitchcock - his last British-made film before Hollywood beckoned - remains one of his most enjoyable and Criterion has seen fit to release it on Blu-Ray finally. While undeniably corny and hammy at times by today's standards, The Lady Vanishes retains its own special ageless entertainment value through solid direction, snappy dialogue and a cast of colorful characters. This is a great example of the way they used to make them.

Highly recommended.

DVD Review LIFE DURING WARTIME (Criterion Blu-ray)

This brilliant follow-up to Solondz's masterpiece, Happiness is nearly half the running time of that film, but packs just as much punch. Plus, it sure doesn't hurt that it's being released by the Criterion Collection.

DVD Review FLIGHT OF THE CONCHORDS: THE COMPLETE SECOND SEASON

It's another ten episodes in what is likely the final season of this oddball musical/comedy series, and as much as I love it I can accept that this may be all we get from Jemaine, Brett, Murray, Mel and Dave.
