DVD Review THE SWEENEY (BLU-RAY)

THE SWEENEY (BL

A great group of actors are on board for this story of a London crime fighting force that promises plenty of action. Here's hoping the story behind the special effects and stuntwork is equally as engaging.

DVD Review LIZ & DICK

LIZ & DICK

Exploitive much? Lindsey Lohan brings her tabloid gravitas to a movie picking over the bones of the woman, whose life was the material of tabloid legend. Not very good as a biography, not very good as a movie, this film careens from cringeworthy to boring. For Lohan completists only (or maybe Grant Bowler fans).

DVD Review DESIGNING WOMEN: THE FINAL SEASON

DESIGNING WOMEN

Designing Women, created by Linda-Bloodworth Thomason, was a very successful and unique situation comedy for its era with an almost completely female cast and a unique tone and perspective. Unfortunately most of the accolades pertained to the first five seasons of the show. Cast changes mixed up the chemistry of the show over its final two seasons and typically obtuse network decision making finalized its demise.

PR Some Guy Who Kills People on DVD Jul 3

Some Guy Who Ki

Few films achieve the perfect balance of genuine sincerity, tastefully ironic humor, and the heightened level of blood and guts expected from horror movies. At first glance, Ken Boyd (Kevin Corrigan) may seem like an average comic enthusiast, living with his mother and working to make ends meet as an underpaid, underappreciated ice cream parlor attendant. But Ken has a dirty little secret: he fantasizes about killing people. After being released from a stay in the loony bin, for severe mental trauma suffered when he was beaten and tortured by a gang of high school thugs, Ken's repressed anger suddenly reaches a boiling point.

DVD Review LIFE DURING WARTIME (Criterion Blu-ray)

LIFE DURING WAR

This brilliant follow-up to Solondz's masterpiece, Happiness is nearly half the running time of that film, but packs just as much punch. Plus, it sure doesn't hurt that it's being released by the Criterion Collection.

It's a rare treat to have the ability to see a film from Peru, but this latest release from The Global Film Initiative is just that. A run throughout the international film festival circuit leads me to believe that this particular Peruvian film is well-worth a look.
