Jean Rollin is held in high esteem by a lot of horror fans, but I've never found his films to excite me the way they do others. Redemption/Kino's Blu-Ray treatment of The Living Dead Girl sure looks great - and the women are attractive - but the film plods along slowly.

In Montreal, elementary school teacher Bachir Lazhar, from Algeria (portrayed by well-known Algerian comedian and writer Fellag) takes over an elementary school class following the suicide of their teacher. Though Lazhar is still recovering from a personal tragedy of his own, he gets to know his students despite a wide cultural gap and difficulties in adapting to the school system's constraints. In time, the students begin their healing process with the hope of transcending their collective grief, just as Bachir comes to be loved and respected by his class.

Singer-songwriter James Lee Springer (Carradine - who actually performs a number of his own songs in the film) has an uncompromising style which has held him back for the past 20 years. He's now getting his shot thanks to the efforts of his best friend/manager (Maloney). While Springer would prefer to let his musical vision and talents lead the way now that he's made it to the top, his manager has a whole other idea of what it takes to stay there.

I've never heard of comedian Jim Jefferies, let alone seen any of his act, but this title's cover art and description scares the crap out of me...in a bad way.
