If you're looking for something to clear your palate after having been exposed to the Depp/Burton reimagining of the classic series Dark Shadows as a brainless sex comedy, you can hardly do better than this collection of nine of the episodes of that original series featuring the late great Jonathan Frid. Barnabas Collins, as portrayed by Frid, was the original tormented vampire, making possible the empires of Anne Rice and Twilight, and this selection points up some of what made him so irresistible all those years ago.

DVD Review LA JETÉE/SANS SOLEIL (BLU-RAY)

Chris Marker's 28-minute 1962 film La Jetée is the centerpiece of this Blu-Ray doublebill from Criterion, which also features his full-length 1983 film Sans Soleil. What makes this such an interesting release is the way these two very different films so perfectly intertwine - made over a period of decades - into a complex expression of time, memory and remembering.

DVD Review DONNIE DARKO (BLU-RAY)

This 4-disc anniversary editions won't offer anything new, in terms of extras or image transfer, but the opportunity to get the full compliment of Donnie Darko versions (theatrical/director's cut/BD/SD/digital download) for well under $20 is a terrific deal.
