DVD Review

Amy (Laurie Wallace) and Bill (Michael R. Thomas) have decided to leave the city and take a vacation at her parents' home while they're out of town. Her blond, girl-next-door look varies considerably from his loser persona. However, they seem happy together, and this trip promises to be a relaxing getaway. During a visit to a local antiques store, Amy discovers a strange mirror that emanates an eerie power. She quickly makes this odd purchase, and her life will never be the same. It apparently originates from an old brothel that was burned down by religious fanatics. This story makes sense, but it does not explain the mirror's power.

The Erotic Mirror utilizes this basic premise to create a straightforward, dull adult film. Created by Seduction Cinema, it contains plenty of encounters between attractive women that loosely revolve around the mirror story. Unfortunately, the scenes lack much energy and become by-the-books "love" scenes. Once she returns home with the mirror, Amy basically discards Bill and focuses all her time on discovering its secrets. A female presence seems to be drawing her towards this antique for unbelievable activities. Her fun begins alone, and it quickly involves various old friends from the neighborhood. Everyone in the presence of the mirror can't control their bodies and quickly forget their inhibitions.

While Bill spends his time acting like a doofus and drinking the days away, Amy is enjoying a much different vacation than she originally anticipated. First of all, she visits a doctor friend and quickly stops the flow of patients for a while. Next, a few high school acquaintances meet her in the park and stop by for a swim. Once the mirror appears, the subsequent activity is apparent. The multitude of lesbian encounters culminate in a large-scale meeting that will supposedly draw the ghost from the mirror. The eventual outcome differs considerably from Amy's expectations and places her in an precarious situation.

If you're still reading this review, it's obvious that you're probably not too interested in the plot of The Erotic Mirror. Few viewers will purchase this DVD to find out what happens with the unique mirror. The women are the definite drawing point, and they cover a diverse collection of figures. Laurie Wallace is striking in the lead role, and Misty Mundae and AJ Khan provide some nice energy as the high-school duo. Darian Caine strikes plenty of alluring poses as the ghost in the mirror, and several other well-endowed girls also appear.

Even in terms of adult cinema, this feature barely registers a blip in terms of excitement. It's a dull film that takes itself way too seriously and offers few campy moments. Fans of Seduction Cinema may enjoy the story, but I'm sure they can do much better. There are some attractive women performing fairly explicit acts here, but the tone is so dull that it does not warrant the viewing time.

Image Transfer Review: The Erotic Mirror appears in a full-frame transfer that only slightly rises above the home-video level. The images are clear enough to see the film, but lack any extra level of clarity that improves the quality. This is not a big surprise considering the entire low-budget nature of this production. However, it does warrant a fairly low grade. The colors lack any sharpness, and the picture is hazy and simple.

Audio Transfer Review: This disc includes a basic mono transfer that presents the events in understandable fashion. The mundane dialogue is easily comprehended, and the music rings through the speakers without much fuzziness. However, there is nothing interesting or noteworthy about this track. It does well enough to not become a distraction, but contains just the bare essentials.

Extras Review: It's a minor surprise to see a decent collection of extra features on a low-budget, adult entertainment disc. The longest segment is a 17-minute, behind-the-scenes look at the cast during the making of the film. It shows home-video shots of the cast while the camera man talks to them about various items. The most interesting parts discuss the girls' feelings on whether the material is degrading. They all appear to be level-headed, normal people who enjoy their jobs and don't feel tainted by them.

This disc also features a look at random moments during filming and on the set. This piece runs for about nine minutes, and it presents quick conversations with the director and actors about the story. A fun atmosphere exists within all the material, which makes them more entertaining. Another segment shows about three minutes of rehearsal footage between Laurie Wallace and Michael R. Thomas.

The remaining supplements include an extremely large amount of trailers for other Seduction Cinema films. Separated into recent productions and retro-cinema, this section presents the entire scope of their movies. Each preview appears in a cheap, full-frame format and runs for several minutes.

Extras Grade: B-

Final Comments

The Erotic Mirror provides numerous lesbian scenes between Laurie Wallace and a collection of other women. If you can forgive a dreadfully boring story, this film will probably please fans of the genre. However, even its erotic moments lack the energy necessary to make them exciting.
