Paramount Home Video presents "The bedroom is the sexiest room in the house."
DVD ReviewCarmen Electra has much to teach the women of the world on how to be sensual and sexy, but I have to think a lot of that starts with looking like Carmen Electra. She is really one sexy woman in my estimation, so the thought of having to sit through another entry in her Aerobic Striptease series hardly ranked up there as a chore. If an attractive woman wants to bump and grind across my screen for an hour or so, I'm more than willing to let her. With Carmen Electra's Aerobic Striptease: In The Bedroom, the locale is obviously the boudoir (set here in the MGM Grand in Las Vegas), and while the backcover touts a "body-sculpting routine", I think what we really have here is the opportunity to watch her wiggle and shimmy, periodically bending over or revealing some cleavage. This is all presented under the marketing guise of helping women—and I do like to think that's true in some weird way—but I still hold true to my belief that her multi-volume Aerobic Striptease series is meant for men. Plain and simple. In fact, the first line of her introduction is "thank for you inviting me into your bedroom, I'm so happy to be here." The format here features a Warm-Up/Stretch segment, with Electra wearing a very tight, low-cut black outfit that is either meant to signify either "I'm working out" or "Please look at my cleavage". After some limber stretching (aka bending over), she runs through a set of stripper-friendly moves, using an unmade bed as her stage. Much of these moves seemingly resemble a woman having sex with the invisible man, though I'm sure a sexy woman on all fours on a bed pointing her rear in the air may mean something entirely different to you. The final portion is the In The Bedroom, where it's time to put it all together. Now wearing high heels and fishnets, Electra moves through some practice routines (complete with instructions like "push your booty back"), before launching into a music-only version that looks more like a Maxim photo shoot than an exercise clip. Naturally this involves more rolling around sensually, bending over slowly and basically continuing the aforementioned "sex-with-the-invisible-man" approach, all of which she does exceptionally well. What I walked away from after viewing this is the powerful affirmation that Carmen Electra has some terrific stripper moves, and that watching her do her thing is quite pleasing to the eye. Any benefits beyond that are still to be determined. Rating for Style: C+ Rating for Substance: C+ Image Transfer
Image Transfer Review: Issued in 1.33:1 fullframe, the transfer carries some noticeably soft edges, though colors are generally warm and natural. While neat and presentable, I did inevitably wonder how this would all look in HD. Image Transfer Grade: B- Audio Transfer
Audio Transfer Review: Nothing particularly exemplary, though the 2.0 mix delivers clear voice quality from Electra, all anchored firmly upfront. Audio Transfer Grade: B- Disc ExtrasStatic menu with musicScene Access with 8 cues and remote access Packaging: Amaray Picture Disc 1 Disc 1-Sided disc(s) Layers: single Extras Review: Unlike some of the other releases in the series, this particular entry has no extras whatsoever. The content is cut into 8 chapters, with a menu option allowing eager strippers to jump to the Introduction, the Warm Up/Stretch or In The Bedroom segments. Extras Grade: F Final CommentsCarmen Electra doing pelvic thrusts on a bed or cavorting with a pillow hardly qualify as disturbing imagery, so for the most part I was okay with yet another entry in her series on teaching everyday women how to strip. |
