Arlington, Va. – May 11, 2011 – This spring, PBS Distribution will release Nova: Venom: Nature's Killer on DVD. Over the millennia, thousands of creatures have developed that most sophisticated of biological and chemical weapons: venom. Chemicals that can scramble your brain signals, paralyze your muscles, puncture blood cells, and even begin digesting you from within. But nature's most destructive and extreme killer toxins could also contain the keys to a new generation of advanced drugs that could treat heart attacks, stroke, diabetes, Alzheimer's, and cancer. NOVA follows scientists on a dangerous quest to track down, capture and sample the wares of the world's most venomous animals – not just to find out how they kill us, but how they can save us.

Nova: Venom: Nature's Killer will be available on DVD for a suggested retail price of $24.99. The DVD running time is 60 minutes. The dealer order cut off date is April 19, 2011.

Program Synopsis
Scientists are in a race against time. Inside the bodies of many creatures, evolution has produced extremely toxic cocktails, all designed for one reason: to kill. It took millions of years to perfect these brews of proteins and peptides, and we have only just begun to discover their potential. Now, the race is on to collect and study them before the animals that produce them disappear. But how does venom do its deadly work? NOVA reveals how venom causes the body to shut down, arteries to bleed uncontrollably and limbs to go black and die.
