While most popular shows of the era focused on the ideal American family (moms wearing pearls and baking cookies) or society's mainstream heroes (mostly White, macho men), ABC's The Mod Squad (1968-73) broke the mold and to coin the vernacular of the day was hip.

The Grooviest Gang of Fuzz Who Ever Wore a Badge

Entire Series on DVD for the 1st Time Ever; Groundbreaking,
Classic TV Series Available in Special Collector's Set, Nov. 12th

TORONTO Nov. 1, 2013 For Immediate Release The grooviest thing to hit DVD this fall is indisputably the special collector's set, Mod Squad: Complete Collection, available Nov. 12 from Visual Entertainment, Inc. (VEI).

While most popular shows of the era focused on the ideal American family (moms wearing pearls and baking cookies) or society's mainstream heroes (mostly White, macho men), ABC's The Mod Squad (1968-73) broke the mold and to coin the vernacular of the day was hip.

While solving crimes, apprehending heinous criminals and addressing social injustice, the youthful investigators Julie (Peggy Lipton), Pete (Michael Cole) and Linc (Clarence Williams III) fairly oozed well, cool. Not only were they counter-culture, but a female and an African-American protagonist made for ground-breaking TV. One White, One Black, One Blonde was the network's promo line, targeting a youthful audience.

Offered work fighting crime as an alternative to being incarcerated themselves, The Mod Squad's three cops utilized their youthful, hippie personas as a guise to get close to the criminals they investigated. Being of the flower-child era, they didn't carry guns (or make the ultimate arrests), but instead wore beads and mod clothing, peppering their dialogue with slang of the day like "groovy," "keep the faith" and "solid" all backed by a rock 'n' roll soundtrack.

Led by the straight-laced, frequently perturbed Captain Adam Greer (Tige Andrews), the show portrayed a multi-cultural society, dealing with such controversial issues as racial politics, drug culture, anti-war sentiment, soldiers returning from war, student unrest, abortion, spousal abuse, child neglect, illiteracy and slum lords all radical subject matter for TV.
Available on DVD as a full collector's set for the first time, this Golden Globe-winning series ("Best Actress") was loosely based on Bud Ruskin's real-life experiences in the late '50s as a Los Angeles Sheriff's Department squad leader for undercover narcotics cops. Executive produced by Aaron Spelling and Danny Thomas.

Guest roles include such iconic actors of the day as Yvonne Craig (Batman's "Bat Girl"), Carolyn Jones (The Addams Family's "Morticia"), William Daniels ("Mr. Braddock" in The Graduate), Sammy Davis Jr., Robert Duvall, Louis Gossett Jr., Vincent Price, Ed Asner, Andy Griffith, Richard Prior, Richard Dreyfuss, Danny Thomas, Tyne Daly (Cagney & Lacey), Martin Sheen, Sugar Ray Robinson, Ida Lupino, Leslie Ann Warren, Tom Bosley (Happy Days), Joan Van Ark (Dallas, Knott's Landing) and more.

Mod Squad: Complete Collection is presented in full screen with an aspect ratio of 4.3 and digital sound. Special features include "Forming the Squad," "Inside the Teeth of the Barracuda: 1968," "Friends of The Mod Squad" and "Hello, My Name is Julie: The Mod Look" featurettes.
