Toronto, ON (April 2, 2009) ñ Video Service Corp partners with award-winning director Bruce McDonald once more to bring his 1995 feature Dance Me Outside to DVD, joining McDonaldís films Roadkill, Highway 61, and Hard Core Logo in VSCís catalogue. The DVD contains a newly restored widescreen version of the film with 5.1 sound, and will be available May 6, 2008 with a suggested retail price of $19.98.
Based on a book by W.P. Kinsella, Dance Me Outside centers on a Northern Ontario reserve. Silas Crow (Ryan Black) and Frank Fencepost (Adam Beach) are drifting through life. With a dream of escaping to Toronto and enrolling in a mechanics course, Silas begins writing his entrance paper about life on the reserve. A visit from his sister (who left the reserve and married a white man), Silasí ex-girlfriendís sudden activism, and the murder of a native by a white man all drive Silas and Frank to awakening to issues beyond the dance on Saturday.
Variety glowed, "Bolstered by a winning youthful cast, the film is a droll ensemble piece that makes its points skillfully and effortlessly." Starring Adam Beach (Flags of Our Fathers, Law & Order), Ryan Black (Moccasin Flats), Jennifer Podemski (Degrassi: the Next Generation, Seventh Generation), Bruce Kirkland of the Toronto Sun called it "a smart, funny, emotionally gripping filmÖwith a fresh perspective."
Special features include original trailer, interviews, cast & crew bios, photo gallery, and commentary with director Bruce McDonald and cast and crew member Steve Van Denzen. Encased in the DVD E-Pak, this is the most environmentally friendly packaging available, using 100% recycled newsback.
"We are so thrilled to be working with Bruce again," declared VSC President Jonathan Gross, "he's a true Canadian treasure and weíre proud to have these films in our library."
