They have furthered this endeavor by releasing these concerts in the striking Blu-ray format. On June 30, John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers and Friends - 70th Birthday Concert (Collectors' Edition) will be the next classic DVD upgraded to high-definition quality (MSRP $24.98, Pre-book order date June 10).

On July 19, 2003, John Mayall hosted this very special event at King's Dock in Liverpool, England. This concert, a celebration of his 70th birthday, was an assertion that captivating musical performances have no age limit. The fundraising event, the first in the UNITE for UNICEF series, was aimed to raise awareness and generate funds to end child exploitation.

On this 70th Birthday Concert, he was joined by his ever-present Bluesbreakers (guitarist/vocalist Buddy Whittington, organist/pianist Tom Canning, Bassist Hank Van Sickle, and Drummer Joe Yuele). He was also reunited with Eric Clapton and Mick Taylor, as well as veteran trombonist Chris Barber. With all of these renowned talents backing the celebrated bluesman, this is a concert not to be missed.

Originally released in standard format on December 9, 2003, 70th Birthday Concert also features three bonus tracks not included in the original release, as well an interview with the man himself. This Blu-ray is a blues treasure for the high-def viewer. For those anticipating more Mayall magic, his new studio album, Tough, is released September 15.

Known as "The Father of British Blues," John Mayall's legendary Bluesbreakers band has launched careers of some of the greatest contemporary blues musicians, including Eric Clapton, Rolling Stone Mick Taylor, and Fleetwood Mac's Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, and Peter Green. His extraordinary contributions to blues music have earned him well-deserved accolades. In 2005, Queen Elizabeth named him an officer of the Order of the British Empire. Brian May (Queen) and Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin) joined him in the reception of this prestigious honor.
