if you are looking for a harder edge to your country music, Jason Aldean might be the ticket with hits like "She's Country" and "Big Green Tractor".

This the first ever live concert DVD from platinum-selling country rocker Jason Aldean. Recorded March 9, 2009 in front of an enthusiastic crowd, the 15-song special is directed by Ivan Dudynsky. Aldean's stage show includes his country radio hits, including "Big Green Tractor," and album cuts from his first three albums; Jason Aldean, Relentless and Wide Open. Aldean is a burly fellow who mines the same field as Hank Williams, Jr., Waylon Jennings, Trace Adkins and other "modern outlaw" country rockers. One song called "Johnny Cash" pays tribute to an important antecedent in the famous Man in Black.
Aldean sings lead and plays acoustic guitar. His band includes band leader Tully Kennedy on bass and background vocals, Rich Redmond on drums, Kurt Allison on lead guitar and Mike Frey on guitar and background vocals.
Aldean's music is listenable and would appeal to a country fan looking for something a little harder than the pop-ish sound of Keith Urban or the traditional low-key approach of Brad Paisley. Aldean is not afraid to raise a little Hell on stage, but suffers from a common country rock problem in that all the songs sound very much alike. The instrumentation is typical drums, bass thump and plenty of guitar solos. Aldean also has a tendency to slur his vocals into a very difficult to understand mix. The sound comes across great in the concert hall or bar, especially after a few beers but doesn't bear up to repeated listening at home.
But, as something cranked up playing in the family room, during a barbecue... this will do just fine in the mix.
