Matt Perry (credited as "M. Hollingsworth Perry") is an award-winning
filmmaker with a master's degree from New York University's prestigious
graduate school of film. His short film Simulacrum won many awards
and has been screened around the world.
He is currently at work on several writing projects.
He is the father of two wonderful children - Jeanne Marie and Harlan -
who have taught him everything he knows about love.
"I think all my films, in a strange way, are about my father," says
Perry, whose father died at 60 of a heart attack. "I was listening to
the radio one day and they were talking about heart transplants and I
was immediately struck by the drama of that short moment between when
the heart is taken out and when it's delivered."
"We shot Heartbeat in black and white because Ive always loved the
way those cinema vérité movies looked from the 40's and 50's," he said.
"Films like Open City and Bicycle Thief had this amazing gritty
quality that just dug right into the characters souls. I wanted to do
the same thing."
